Tennessee is recruiting a cohort of up to 70 interns for the upcoming school year through the Project RAISE initiative. Opportunities are available for Master’s level interns in school psychology, school counseling, and school social work. Stipends of up to $40,000 are available for a two-year commitment in Tennessee schools, including one year in a rural district.

Project RAISE currently serves 59 districts during the 2025–26 academic year and will expand to 78 districts in the 2026–27 academic year, supporting rural schools and communities across Tennessee. The district is responsible for interviewing the intern to determine suitability. In addition, the intern and the supervisor must attend a Project RAISE event during the summer preceding the internship opportunity.

Project RAISE paid internships are open to Master’s level interns in school psychology and school counseling, and school social work anywhere in the U.S. The university which prospective student interns attend are responsible for vetting the appropriateness of the internship site and ensuring the site satisfies applicable degree and licensure requirements.
Students enrolled in programs outside of Tennessee should confirm with their university program that an out-of-state internship placement is allowable and consult the Educator Licensure requirements to ensure eligibility for licensure. To learn more about licensure requirements, please refer to the Tennessee Department of Education’s guidance or email educator.licensure@tn.gov.
I would recommend Project RAISE because it made it possible for me to concentrate more on school and interning and worry less about money.”
I enjoyed what I would call a grass-roots problem solving approach to supporting a student’s needs.”
I can’t recommend this program enough! It builds confidence in your skills while offering so much support. Positive experience with exposure to great resources, connect with other school counselors in similar circumstances.”
